what mufflers are you all running to achieve legal standards.
i was thinking of running some kind of hot dog style mufflers before my drag mufflers to get it quieter but would like to hear suggestions brands etc..

also toying with the idea of 3 inch cannons on the rear replacing the drag mufflers..?

alternatively does anyone just run a silencer like you can get for big cannon exhausts for jap cars??

NB:
427 chev, big cam.
hooker headers currently going to 3" all the way with 1x drag open style muffler each side of the car.

On a mild 450hp 454 I run 50 series flowmasters on a 2-1/2" straight through (no X or H pipe) system with stock manifolds. They're pretty quiet below 2500rpm (just legal) but from 3000 to 6000 you can't hear yourself think.
There are probably better less restrictive mufflers out there now, but with a decent cam and headers on a big block you're still going to have problems keeping it quiet when you're up it.

I'm running custom made stainless 3" mufflers and dogs, and you can pretty well hear your passengers through the rev range..........Blower whine is louder than the pipes :D

Good topic this one. I am going to 3 inch a side shortly but dont want to draw to much attention from the donut munchers :D . Can you go 3 inch and still be reasonable quiet without killing performance
Something that roars when revved but mellow when picking up the grandkids from school:eek: Really !!

I have custom twin 3" system will custom straight through mufflers, exhaust guy makes his own which are an exact copy of a magnaflow muffler, and 3" tail pipes. it's probably a little too load to pass rego. too keep your's a little quieter for rego Dan i suggest using a pair of hotdog style resonators in your tail pipes.

I'm going to run a twin 3" stainless magnaflow kit under mine... I was thinking about putting some restrictor plates in mine to get it through roadworthy... after that it's only a weekend toy....

I have twin 3 inch system with hooker aerochambers and weld in resonators just before the pipe.

It is hardly quiet but it went over no worries.

cheers
