I am getting closer to firing up a new big block. whats the go with getting oil pressure before ignition  Spin her on the starter motor until pressure is showing on the gauge ok ?? Can I take the plugs out to get a easy spin of the motor ? Have read about about a special tool in the dissy spot but dont really want to remove the dissy :(
Should I take the rocker covers off the check the oil flow is right thru the engine before "contact"
Have bought some Penzoil running in oll for start up and plan to change oil and filter after 15 minutes running. Then move to a lighter weight street oil for the first 500k and switch to 30-50 then
Any engine experts out here ;)

Get a priming tool and spin it with a drill. A bit of messing around with the dizzy but its better than all that wear with no oil in the system. Take the rocker covers off and check that oil is getting through all the rockers (may take a couple of minutes so make sure you have a strong drill ). Turn the motor through several quarter turns with a socket on the balancer bolt during this time to uncover all the oil passages. After you have oil coming through ALL the rockers put the covers back on. Using your socket on the balancer, get the number one piston coming up on the compression stroke ( put your finger over the spark plug hole and youll feel the compression ) and stop on your initial timing setting. Install the dizzy in the right spot and fire that beast up. Oh, make sure the trans lines arent resting on the exhaust. LOL Bad memories there. :D
