Decided to fit a braided steel, oil dipstick. Originally I put in a normal cheapo chrome one which I had to use considerable force to get in and seat down where it should. Does anyone have any ideas on getting the old one out. I just know Im going to have trouble and end up with it broken half way out. Was thinking about heating the block around the area of the tube to expand it. Any suggestions?

Grip it with vice grips and then tap the vice grips upwards

Wish it was that simple. I mean I used A LOT of force to get it in. I dont think vice grips are going to touch it

Drip some penetrene around it. Vice grips are the go. Getting it moving around a bit first before you try and pull it straight upwards. You're replacing it, so doesn't matter if you damage it a bit.

OK I got it out. Its been so long since I installed it I thought the tube was a lot longer inside the block. Next thing. Im using a Lokar braided dipstick and this one is the opposite. A really slack fit. I can push it in by hand with absolutely no resistance. Silicone or what? The top of it bolts to a header bolt.
