Ok here's my question..
How much should i expect to pay to bring over a disc brake kit?
Including:
rotors, calipers, Drop Spindles, assembled power brake booster with a disc brake master cylinder, and all the other stuff i'd need for a disc brake converion nuts, bolts, lines etc...
I know it would all weigh a bit.. but shipping on that shouldn't be $1500 ($US) alone should it?

Steve, where can I start ok here.
Don't bring lines out as they are pre-bent and are huge, with huge comes a giant finger in your exit hole.
Here's some stuff I recently ordered, nowhere near as heavy as your gear is going to be , check out the postage

--------------------------------------------------------------------
I paid $115us and got it shipped to Pomona.
I'd guess it's gonna finger(read fist) you at least $400us
If your gear is a nickle over $1000au, little johnny will have at least three digits up your exit hole for at least a 1/4 of what the gears worth.
Do yourself a favour and get it brought out in a container. If you don't know anyone i'll put you in touch with some guys who'll look after you. Only catch is you'll wait you'll be waiting for them to go and pack boxes and then around 8 weeks for it to get here.......your a car guy you obviously have some patience.
cheers
Jim
PS:My guys are in the States this week loading my gear :D which means they will be back there in around 6 weeks......start spending :D

Muggz I know where your coming from, check this 5hit out back in '95.
I paid $250 dash pad for a Vette, to big to carry on so I shipped it. Check out the damage in the circle with the arrows......and no, I don't throw out paperwork.
Otherwise some people would think us claimants(of price raping) are full of 5hit with our claims of "yeah they sure ferked me over" :D

I believe he's only doing the fronts
I can say for certain I shipped a full wilwood front setup out here for under $200USD I am not too sure how much the spindles and booster/master would cost...
Also I have a killer import rate with FED EX through my work for bulky stuff...

For the lines i think it's more the shorter ones.. not the full disc to booster... etc..
I've ask them to confirm it's the cost of shipping alone.. or if that was meant to be the total costs....
here's roughly what i received...
-Brake kit with 2" drop spindles $880
-Shipping $1224.06
(all $US)
Now i'm assuming after what you guy's have said, that last line should be "Total including Shipping"....
I hope it is...
If it is shipping alone i'll go to someone else...
And Jim, it's obviously will be over 1K.. should I ask them to break it up? or will i just end up paying more in the long run... what tax would i be paying on $1500 worth of stuff?

$1500us or OZ? If Oz I would guess around $400-500au...Us$ around $500-600au
If you have to get it sent Air, i'd split it.....
Steve, when you say "obviously over 1k" is that including postage?????? even johnnys got some morals, you don't pay tax on postage.

Well i've put out a few questions to others and i'll see how i go.. i would love a single kit with drop spindles and all.. :(
Got a question i didn't ask in the PM Kurt.. the willwoods, they bolted straight to your old drum spindles yeah? If you decide to get disc drop spindles would you run into trouble? or is it again just a direct bolt up with the willwoods.. I've never seen disc and drum spindles side by side so i don't know if there is any major difference.. from what i understand (and i'm probably wrong) they just have offset differences..
And thanks Jim might take you up on that.. The beers sound very tempting :)
I'm heading into bayswater tommorow to pick up a door from Shane (from canberra), so atleast i will get a little more progress on the car... I'll work on getting that right.. i need to do some visible work on it as i feel like i'm not getting anywhere, and it will never finish.. :p

lol... yeah looks like it :p
I met Shane and got my door today, top guy, got exactly what he said, no surprises.. Seems to have a fair bit of stuff with him for this trip...
And back to the brakes, Shane recommended i order the brake kit i want and get it sent to Pete (Mustangs and Camaro's) address in the states and he'll bring it all over in his next container for me for a few hundred.. hopefully I can arrange that on Monday, i'll call Pete and see if he'll do it for me.
I'm feeling a bit better again :) even got some work done on the car today...

Steve,
What did you end up deciding brakes wise ?
I am about to order a set of Wilwood full kit (ie 13" rotors all round, e-brake, hoses, 4 spot calipers etc etc). US$2600 for the full kit end to end.....I'm just getting quotes for shipping. I can look to add yours with mine. I am also back in the states again in July

I'm waiting till tomorrow (monday) to try and speak with Pete and see if he can bring my kit over... I'd love a willwood kit, but my "camaro fund" would feel the pain :p
It is an option though ;) let me know what it all comes to inc shipping i'd be interested to see what they say to you...
SirGeo
04-06-2007, 03:53 PM
Ok.. Pete said i can bring it in his container aslong as it's labeled properly and i pay taxes etc..
He thinks all up will cost me under $150 to bring over.. even with his cut of $50 :D
Only thing is i need it sent to his shipper by friday.. if not i have to wait another 6 or so weeks...

Hi All,
I have been quoted by Classic Industries $571.77 US to ship a brake conversion kit and 1 inch sway bar from the US to Melbourne using DHL.
Does anyone know any other alternatives to brnig down the cost for shipping parts from Classic Industries (US) to Aus?

It is part number A1231DS. Why do you ask?

That's about $1650 aussie before you get taxed man. It will end up costing you like $2000. The local robbers here have them cheaper then that.
Maybe try and get somebody to bring it in for nothing for you or even broken up as postal sea freight via post or offer somebody a few hundred to use up their return hand luggage or one of the importers empty containers in Melbourne.

Classic usually offer alternative shipping
e.g DHL, Air, Sea, UPS etc.
Didn't they offer you alternatives to DHL?

Not necessarily true. I am getting a brake concersion kit for $711 (20% off) + a 1 inch sway bar (20% off). They quote me $571.77 for delivery on both items delivered to Melbourne.
You only pay GTS and duty tax on parts not freight. Given the AUS dollar is strong it makes sense buy from America.
I am after a cheaper alternative for shipping from the US to Australia. Surely they all not this expensive.

.. MrCam.. "You only pay GTS and duty tax on parts not freight. " WRONG.. big time WRONG..
You pay GST on the parts, the internal freight if listed, the international freight and the local service charges.. and about a $75 Customs entry fee too.
Duty is not GST. But if charged DUTY.. your whole GST costs are compounded by the % of Duty & Freight & Parts costs.

Contact us and we will take care of it for you.
We have shipped lots of small and large parts for forum members (I will get to you soon Birchy)
It may take a couple of days, we are on the final leg of an 8,000 mile trip and don't have a lot of online time. Just popped in here for a sec as it has been ages since I visited.
We have containers booked for Melb, Syd, Bris, Adl and Fre so we can take care of it.

HI,
Classic Industries have quoted me approx $600 US to freight a brake kit and sway bar using either UPS Express saver or DHL.
If you are aware of another cost affective option to air freight from Classic Industries to Australia please let me know

It really is not that big an amount of stuff to be bringing over, by the time you pay for internal shipping, loose access to it for months & months, hope its all together and pay the tax & any duty for the parts, transport & international freight, then whatever the local guy clearing it charged you your beyond your break even point. Also NEVER accept what the clearance guys put in front of you either.. local wharves 7 shipping industry has more thieves and gansters in it then San Quinten, ESPECIALLY in Australia... .. just sit opposite the carpark of the pubs off Foreshore drive here... its like a markets here sometimes - and the clearnace people they regularly scam in extras like phone & photocoping & search fees & bond access fees, just watch them they are thieving low life scum burglars too.
Unless USAtoAust want to do it for say $50-$100, which they can - its pointless. Just let Classics fly it it. Some of the local thieves here have these parts here already for like ok money too but we don't need to save their sorry arses unless you have a warranty problem or need to use them for advice. If your going to save $100 in the long run its better in your pocket. Ask UStoAust for a locked in deal all up with tax at your door with a major penalty if they are late so it does not get put on the slow boat around china or missed & make sure it is INSURED.. FEDEX give a guarantee like that... there is nothing worse then waiting months and finding all the others who had a certain days or dated guarentee has expired and your unable to retrieve any claim 3-6 months later like.

Just a reminder to always check your prices between Jegs and Summit. I always go right through the ordering process between the two and my last four purchases have been through Jegs. Even with Summits discount code Jegs has been cheaper, and not by just a few dollars. This time Summit came out on top. Holley 1000HP carby including shipping...Jegs US$909.46 Summit US$797.87.
Not a small difference on one item.
