How hard is to change the Frame Mounts in a Camaro. Any tricks or things to avoid ? Have been told it is a %$$# of a job

It's easy, they're bolt on :) do you have the ones you need? I only ask because I have a BB set laying around, not cheap but they're here :)

You mean the engine mount stands that bolt to the front cross member?

Or the subframe to body bushes?

I've got a brand new set from Rick's in the US in the box not used you can have if you want (Chassis shop didn't know I had em and bought brand new ones also...I can't see me using these extra ones and I don't giving em up)

Sorry Guys should have been clearer. I mean the Engine Frame Mounts. Have already bought the BB versions and will need to remove the old SB versions. I understand the BB engine is pushed over to one side with the correct mount to avoid clearance issues with the gearbox mount ?

I used SBC ones on my BBC...albeit I only used the frame mounts, I did not use the motor mounts as we fashioned our own motor mounts to get the height where we wanted it.....

They are a little fiddly, but not difficult if the technique is good and the nuts aren't too rusted up  . Easier with the engine out, but I have done it with the engine in.

The hard part is that 4 of the nuts (2 each side) are accessed from inside the cross member, so they need the right socket extensions to get to them. And then a little care so the nuts dont become a permanent resident of the inside of the front cross member. There are slots to access the nuts through.

2 nuts (1 each side) are accessed from the cavity for the lower control arm rear bush.

www.pozziracing.com has some details on the actual mount combinations.

Do you have the tall/short pair, or the short equal height pair? One of the pairs, I think it is the tall/short pair, moves the engine to the passenger side and lifts the engine upwards slightly on the drivers side. Drivers side cast iron stock manifold had a large scallop to miss the steering box.

There is also a different rear x member and different engine mounts...just to make things confusing...

Cheers.

For BB's, the left side mount is higher than right side mount. BB engine frame mounts will also move the engine forward if using them with a SB engine

69Coupe, depending on the height of your TKO and/or it's crossmember, BB frame mounts may lower your engine too much.
Not saying it will, but just be aware of your front pulley-to-crossmember clearance.

For example, a BB with a Powerglide (never a factory combination) will cause the front pulley to actually touch the crossmember.
SB frame mounts are required and work fine in that situation. ;)

Thanks for the help Guys. My new BB mounts are different in height. Will be doing the job with engine out so should be ok. After 40 years I hope buggers are willing :(
The Classic 5 speed kit manual says to use the BB mounts with the Tremic and their supplied gearbox crossmember. According to them it all fits without any clearance issues :) Heard that before !!!

Engine out....very easy....if not a little fiddly.

The pic shows the slots which the upper two bolts/nuts are accessed through...the third hole is behind the control arm where the arrow is pointing....sorry I dont have any shots without the control arm hanging in there.
