My '74 AMC Javelin uses a GM steering column setup which I'm hoping is similar to a GenII steering column. The engineer doing my VASS cert indicated I need a lockout button to prevent being able to turn the ignition key from ON to LOCK in a single rotation (eg. not pushing the key in or using a button on something?) Do GenII Camaros do this?

Also, do GenII Camaros allow you to remove the key in positions other than LOCK? Mine does and I'm not sure if it's broken or just made that way?

Any help greatly appreciated!!

All 69 on GM passenger vehicles used a system of linkages from the transmission to the column to prevent the key being put in the lock position or removed unless the car was in park (auto) or reverse (manual) for both column and floor shift
This also prevented the transmission being moved out of park or reverse unless the key was in and turned to the off position
Most I've seen have had these linkages discarded long ago, especially those converted to RHD
hope this helps.

A long time ago I bought a 73 RHD camaro from an X airforce guy who had it converted in 74 (real nice job) even the factory air still worked great.
Whoever converted it went to a lot of trouble to retain the "reverse lock out" set up with a complicated linkage runing from the (original) LH side of the firewall over to the column on the right.
When the shifter was put into park it rotated the inner sleave of the column and allowed removal of the key. (as discribed above)
On floor shift cars the NSS was part of the shifter along with the reverse light switch, but on column shift and 4 speed cars the NSS and reverse light switch is mounted to the base of the column and also activated by these linkages.

I own a 74 camaro that had been converted to RHD and it has no lock out system at all. I can put the key in and turn it in any direction and position without needing to push the key or any buttons or anything.

Like I said "most (especially RHD) cars have had all that BS removed long ago."
The steering column must have been left permenently in the PARK position
Here's the bits for a 69 4 speed
