I need a set of complete HQ/ HZ Holden back drum brakes including backing plates, apparently the 10 bolt chev drums will not fit 31 spline axles in a 9inch conversion. Anyone in the Melbourne area got any in good nick ?

I used HQ drums on the 9" drum brakes. ..just so I would have a 4 3/4" bolt circle. All I needed to do was oversize the drum's holes so the 1/2" studs would pass through.

Do you have the Ford drums still?

I assume your talking about the big ford bearing going through the backing plate? If so just get your 10 bolt backing plates machined out to suit....there's plenty of meat there. If you cant be bothered, I have a set of 10 bolt ones here with drums you can have if you pick them up :D

Thanks for the offer but I got some HQ drums from a Holden Wrecker yesterday. Will put in new cylinders and linings. Have decided to get Traverna to make up the Ford diff for me. He uses new tubes and 31 spline axles, quoted a reasonable price to include LSD and 3.7 ratio. Just got to take the old 10 bolt out now

Did you use the HQ handbrake cables ? If so did they match up to the Camaro exsisting cables to the front ??

yes, need to use the HQ/Z handbrake cable that comes out of the backing plate and they attach to the front cables the same as the old ones. I think they are a slightly different length from memory. I did the same thing you are doing 69coupe. I bought a complete diff out of a HZ ute for $50 just for the backing plates and cables and bought new cylinders and linings

Just installed Camaro cables on the HQ drums. They fitted perfect. They were also heaps cheaper. $20 each and $33 postage compared to $80 each for HQ cables! Helps when you ran out of money ages ago :(

the HQ cables are longer than the 10 bolt ones from memory. I did say previously in this thread that i used the HQ ones but i recently found them while cleaning out the garage and realised that i did use the original ones out of my old 10 bolt diff.
