Has anyone had any experience with installing HID xenon Lighthing into a 1st gen camaro??? The ballasts and bulbs are no issue I know where to get those but what I'm wondering is whats a good headlamp assembly to use them in??
I jumped into a discussion on TC a while back

Kurt,
Id love to get some for mine eventually! Im not sure the ruling for installing such a setup on a car that didnt come with it from factory? To be honest, its better than normal headlights!
But to answer your question, if you get the headlamp casing that has the removable bulbs, then im sure you can retrofit the HID's. I used to run 'Blue light' bulbs on my old 68 impala... i just went to a parts shop to get 2 new headlamp housings.

Guess what you really need is a projector... but a generic 7" lamp with a H4 plug in will do as long as it has a good reflector bucket and clear lense... the clear lense I find is essential so it doesn't spread the beam at the lense....more so it projects off the reflector bucket and straight out of the lense..... have you ever seen old like 80's model cars with reflector type lense with a HID kit... looks shocking.. its just like a blur at the lense rather than a nice beam....
I have XENON's in my daily and can't go backwards  I'll dig alittle deeper see what I can find!

I emailed em.... I'll wait and see?? I want em
Looking at it though... they are one of them sellers that put a low sell price and jack you on shipping.... the lower sell price means they pay stuff all fees to us the consumer its all in the same sh*t..

Well they have a projector lamp (as you can see) tht takes a standard size H4 globe... those globes they give you are a load of sh*t... I'll launch them straight into the bin....they're probably a great way to melt your wiring loom  XENON ballasts don't draw any more current than your factory halogen globes...Be careful buying high powered halogens... as mentioned above good way to melt your wiring..
I'm going to get a Proper H4 sized XENON globe and ballast setup... perhaps even BI XENON's so you can have dipped and high beam :) perfect!!!
There is also some mob in the states that makes adapters so you can run OEM type XENON globes etc.. like D2R's in a H4 housing... I can't see the point.. I've f*cked around a bit with xenon and done lots of research... I can tell you this ... the difference between a $1000 HID kit and $1000 HID kit NONE..... only the lifespan but the outcome the same.... From what I've read.. the main difference is in the ballasts... good ones use less xenon gas on start up meaning longer bulb life....
Another note too when buying your HID kit get the colour temp that YOU like best... Me I like 6000K it is whitest you can get.... the lower the 0000K number is the more yellow the higher it is the more blue/purple it is..... 4300K 6000K, 8000K are the most common in OEM applications... the first two been the most of the three....
Enjoy... .

Can see why I didn't bid... :D Lost the old-school toughness immediately. Even on a pro-tourer reckon they'd be odd/bit tacky up close (in black like this)

I could get em to work.. but don't feel as though I could be bothered they are not 100% up to my fussy standards..... DSE wanted $150 to ship me a pair of their already pricey headlamps. :( They were nice though they take a late model 9003 globe.. :)
Might get em shipped to Dan and then ship to me worse casE!!
the more you update with modern parts the more charcter is lost from the cars IMO. my camaro has weak yellow lights, doors that need a bit of encouragement to open and close, indicators that talk to you when you operate them, and i wouldn't want it any other way. Its like a time warp back to the 60's.

Haha.. You are actually onto something there dude.
I drove my jigger to work last week at 6am in freezing darkness, ultra thick fog, dampish cold roads with a BBC torque & tight unfamiliar LSD sending me sideways anytime I wasn't gentle as a mouse... all with pissweak lights pointing in random directions. It was one of the most enoyable commutes I've ever had!
Sure as hell woke me up some! :D (Which a snoozer like me needed at that hour :p)

I have been looked into this headlight thing lately, but for a different reason, I have a company supplied 4WD to drive to and from work, it’s only 550k each way so a lot of night driving and the standard hilux headlights are not up to it! I was looking at fitting a HID kit and happened to run into the Phillip’s rep at the shop I was looking to buy. He talked me out of fitting the $1000-00 plus HID kit for a set of what are called PLUS80 H4 bulbs! These are rated at 55/60w but claim to be 80% brighter! As he pointed out the biggest problem with the retro fit HID kits is that they put the centre of the light source in the wrong position therefore the light is out of focus to produce the best beam. The light that they produce is great and i can tell the difference after fitting them, the huge advantage is when on low beam as it is a lot brighter and easier to see!
What I intend to fit to mine is to get a set of good quality Hella 7” H4 headlight reflector and a set of the PLUS80 bulb, wired through a relay to give me new car quality lighting

I installed the crystal lenses onto my 68. Easy as pie. Bought them of ebay aus for around $45. H4 globes fit and the plug is the same. And they kick butt at night, just as good as any late model car.

US$91 for the pair (with H4 globes)

Only thing about buying from the States is do they "dip" to the right or left? Just wondering about the legalities and compliance?

make sure you run a relay for each low and high beam or you will burn out switches and or wires
