As i said in a previous post, i've always had a soft spot for AMC's.... Don't see many of them around anymore.. and was blown away by the amount at the American day at flemington earlier this year.. Never knew so many were still about and alive.

P.S. your build up and info in that link is amazing.. well done..

Thanks for the positive response guy's, us AMC'ers often feel like the underdogs so to speak so its good to see.
Sorry guys, I thought the link would do it but here is some photo's of the Javelin and the loooooongest rebuild in history.
This is what it looked like when started in 1985? :D

I always liked javelin's and there shorty cousins, the "AMX"
I know AMI imported or converted a few untill 71 I think ?
But you just don't see them come up for sale anymore ?
They're a great underated little pony car.
If I found a nice original RHD 68-70 javlin for sale, I'd buy it, no question.
I found this today

Nice .. only problem is that I've seen a few local RHD '70 Javelin 390s going for about AU$10K, a few local '69 RHD 343 AMXs for about AU$7K (needing work) and missed out on a '71 Javelin AMX 401/4-spd for $AU12K ...

Hmm .. 68/68 AMX .. my next must-have :)

Did you know that the AMC AMX's that were sent down here to Melbourne to build were put together AMI (American Motors Industries) were all 1969 models. All were 343 ci V8's and all were Automatics!! My 1969 AMC AMX is a Go-Pac with 390 c.i and Hurst close ration 4 speed with Hurst shifter. Also has 4.10 gears and go s like the clapper. With the Sure Grip rear end, it is an amazing piece of American Muscle!! The ones put together in Melb were great cars but pale in comparision to the 390 4 speed cars!!

Ramblers!!!!!

My father purchased his first Rambler Hornet during early 1970, at the time he was importing exotic fabrics for his business, he had AMI paint the car a Cortina Colour Hot Pink and then he fitted a Zebra skin roof! it was certainly a head turner in the early seventies.

I continued my love of the HORNET due to the flared guards and the posibility of sitting 15 x 10 just level with the guards edge. Initially mine had a worked 258 CI motor with a Leyland P76 4 speed box behind it and a Chrysler 1 Ton Clutch, was a street screemer. I took the box and motor out to fit a 455 buick motor and the 6 cyliner ended up in a Oval Track hornet by a well known owner of a wrecking yard in Vic.

Ended up becoming a member of the Hornet Car Club and a brief stint as secretary, this also gave me resources to rethink the project. Tried a 350 chev and then the final install 351 windsor and fmx and Tunnel Rams. The Tunnel rams were 302 windsor with 2" adaptor plates made up for each side and the distributor lenthened around 3". Pretty serious stuff for Early 80's. I colour coded the car White and polished alloy in highlight areas.

My biggest regret was not having pictures of the car, it did get into a couple of magazines during car runs with the club. I loved this car and still do the poor quality of design let it down for me though.

I had my eye set on a Javelin 401 for many years however never found one that was suitable, would still like one but not sure if I want the headaches of searching for a parts to keep it on the road.

There thats my two bobs worth.

You can get MOST parts but a lot of it will come from the USA. Only issue is full panels (patch panels are OK), and usually they can be found secondhard. AMC owners are cheap and won't pay top dollar for anything!! :)
