Take a look y'all. Thought I would finally contribute something material on this great forum. Spied in my garage. Wanted one for almost 30 years since I read a magazine article on the Gen1 302 Z/28 in the 70's. Really desired a GenII but the kids...with their superor taste....preferred the Gen1. Bought in April. Finally got it shipped, arrived, cleaned, safe - brakes overhauled...all other mechanical bits firmly attached, ship shape, fully checked over for rust (almost none - mainly surface corrosion) interior replaced, lights done and registered. Now loose on the world.

Took around 2 months from the time it arrived....running as a basic car now....BBC and TH400, but the end game is to reflect a similar look I had a 100 years ago with my brutal V8 XU-1. ZL-1 number plate is merely a fantasy. GMPP has released a ZL-1 aluminium replica...pipe dream for me...am sure the 427 (they are making four hundred and twenty seven motors) motors will be SNAPPED up in the US.

I saw this look in the flesh on the cover of PHR (Popular Hot Rodding) in April this year (year of our lady 2007). There it was. Penny. Bad Penny that is. Albeit with the paint showing more a red/orange (like my Tangerine XU-1) than the deeper and unique Chrysler "Prowler Orange" it really is.....Bad Penny....Steve Rupp's gorgeous 68 LS2 Pro Tourer. Star of the Willwood stand at SEMA this year.

Wont go quite so radical, i.e. no tubs, no front sub replacement (though better dynamics & ride height somehow), no roll cage, no 4+ link rear, but certainly the look and the LSX motor will be there. Yet to decide whether 4 speed or 6 speed auto. Probably a 9" like the Torana...not really worth spending the $$ on the 10 bolt.

There is a lot to do. Paint on my 68 in the picture is around 10 years old. She turned 40 years old during the 2nd week of October. At some point after the LSX goes in and is all shook out, in for a fix of any issues, total strip, epoxy prime, block block block, and paint.

Attached also a couple shots of "Bad Penny" as well (courtesy and credits to Mr Rupp/Super Chevy/PHR and maybe FQuick. Am sure some of you are familiar with Penny and her story from pro-touring.com. "Penny Done" is a shot of Penny after she was fixed after a rear ender somewhere in LA.

For Penny 1.2 See: http://www.pro-touring.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31090 &highlight=rupp

Enjoy and thanks for taking a look.

Cheers....

Nice....love the 68s

Bad Penny is an inspiration for many.....

My 68 will have many of the things Bad Penny does...except no LSx motor...I'm going old school BBC

Yes that Bill Mitchell motor you have is something else....though I wouldn't call it "old school"....anything World produces is state of the art. They have revolutionalised the crate business. So much so...have heard of GM copying them....

I almost went with something similar to your Hardcore Merlin after I seriously considered a blown 502 73 Camaro, but in looking for a mix of straightline and corner turning, decided on the LS to replace the BBC.

Cheers.

Very nice!.. and thanks..I just spent the good part of my morning going through the bad penny rebuild thread :p Looks unreal....

And if you manage to get one of those 427's.. put me down for one too :p

If they are only doing 427 of them i'm sure they are already sold on pre-orders.

Damn bad Penny is a nice car...

It's certainly been copping a hiding since it's completion. You always see it at the road events that they hold in the US.

LOL! I wish! :)

Yeah Mr Rupp sure gives Penny a work out. I haven't had mine on a racetrack, but it is looking like it will get near the insurance km limit for the year! :D
